Nigerian Missions in the U.S. Take Over Visa Processing After End of Third-Party Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a major change to how Nigerian visas are processed in the United States. Applicants will now submit their visa applications directly to Nigerian diplomatic missions following the suspension of the third-party visa application service previously handled by Online Integrated Solution (OIS Services).

The new arrangement took effect immediately and is expected to streamline visa application submissions while ensuring that services continue without interruption.

What Has Changed?

Under the new directive:

  • Nigerian visa applications in the United States will no longer be processed through OIS Services.
  • Applicants are now required to submit their visa applications directly to the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C., or the Nigerian Consulates in New York and Atlanta.
  • Nigeria’s electronic visa (e-Visa) system remains unchanged and continues to operate as usual.

The Nigeria Immigration Service says adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth transition during the changeover.

What This Means for Travelers

The change affects individuals in the United States who require a Nigerian visa, including:

  • Tourists
  • Business travelers
  • Nigerians with foreign passports
  • Family visitors
  • Other eligible foreign nationals travelling to Nigeria

Applicants should ensure they follow the updated submission procedures before scheduling appointments or sending application documents.

e-Visa Applications Continue Normally

The Immigration Service has clarified that the new directive does not affect Nigeria’s e-Visa programme.

Eligible travelers can continue applying online through the e-Visa platform where applicable, while only embassy and consulate visa submissions are affected by the latest changes.

Applicants Should Monitor Official Updates

As diplomatic missions adjust to the new process, applicants are encouraged to:

  • Confirm current application procedures before applying.
  • Prepare all required documents in advance.
  • Allow sufficient time for processing.
  • Follow updates issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigerian diplomatic missions in the United States.

Planning ahead can help minimize delays during the transition period.

Looking Ahead

The move marks an important administrative change in Nigeria’s overseas visa processing system. While travelers may need to adjust to the new application process, the direct submission model is expected to ensure continuity of visa services while further updates are communicated by the relevant authorities.
