Starting July 15, 2025, UK visa applicants in the United States will experience a much smoother process thanks to VFS Global’s launch of 38 UK Visa Application Centres (VACs) across the country. These new centers replace the old Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Application Support Centers, bringing everything under one roof.
What’s New?
Previously, applicants had to visit separate locations for biometrics and passport submissions, often dealing with mailing delays and extra steps. Now, with VFS Global managing the process, everything happens in one visit:
-
Book an appointment at the nearest VFS Global UK VAC.
-
Submit your biometrics and passport in person—no more mailing documents.
This change is designed to streamline the UK visa application process for U.S. residents applying for work, study, or long-term visas.
Where Are the New Centers Located?
VFS Global has opened 38 centers across the U.S., including major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Miami, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and many more. Applicants now have easier access to a center, reducing travel time and simplifying the process.
Who Needs These Centers?
-
Long-term travelers, such as students, workers, and those moving to the UK, must use these centers.
-
Tourists visiting for less than 6 months? No need for a visa—just apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online before traveling.
A Step Toward Convenience
This development is part of the UK’s broader shift toward a digital immigration system. VFS Global, which already manages UK visa services in over 140 countries, says the new setup will enhance comfort and efficiency for applicants in the U.S.
Bottom Line:
If you’re applying for a UK work or student visa from the U.S., this is good news—fewer steps, faster processing, and a simpler experience overall.
