The Federal Government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 27, following the successful completion of emergency runway repairs.
Flight operations had been suspended after a sudden and significant rupture was detected on a critical section of the runway, prompting the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to close the airport on April 18. Airlines, including Air Peace, had to suspend their Enugu routes, with all scheduled flights diverted to nearby airports to maintain passenger safety.
In a statement issued on Sunday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, confirmed that rehabilitation works were now complete and the runway had been declared safe for landing and takeoff by FAAN engineers.
FAAN extended its gratitude to airport users and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the temporary closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
The reopening is expected to restore normal flight schedules and improve connectivity across the South-East region.
