Armenia Introduces 180-Day Visa-Free Stay for Residents of 113 Countries in 2026

Armenia has launched a significant temporary visa exemption initiative for 2026, allowing eligible travellers from 113 countries to enter and stay in the country for up to 180 days (about six months) without a visa — as long as certain conditions are met. This policy is designed to boost tourism, encourage longer visits, and strengthen Armenia’s global travel appeal.

Who Can Benefit From the Visa-Free Stay

Between January 1 and July 1, 2026, foreign nationals who meet the following criteria can enter Armenia visa-free and stay for up to 180 days within a 12-month period:

  • Hold a valid residence permit issued by one of the following:

    • United States of America

    • European Union member states

    • Schengen Area countries

    • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

    • Kingdom of Bahrain

    • State of Qatar

    • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

    • State of Kuwait

    • Sultanate of Oman

  • The residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

Eligible visitors must present their physical residence permit card (or sticker in the passport) at Armenian border control upon arrival. Armenian authorities will verify the document details, including name, nationality, date of birth, and validity period.

What the Policy Means

Instead of applying for a traditional Armenian visa in advance, travellers who qualify under this scheme can now enjoy a visa-free stay of up to 180 days — a much longer period than most short-stay visa arrangements. The exemption makes Armenia a more accessible destination for:

  • 🌍 Tourists seeking extended holidays or cultural trips

  • 💼 Business travellers attending meetings, conferences, or long stays

  • 🌐 Remote workers and long-stay visitors exploring the region

This temporary exemption applies only if the required residence permit conditions are met — applicants without eligible residence permits must still apply for a visa through regular channels.

Why This Matters for Travellers

Armenia’s visa-free policy opens up new opportunities for visitors who live abroad under valid residency status, particularly those coming from the United States, Europe, Gulf Cooperation Council states (e.g., UAE, Saudi Arabia), and other qualifying regions. Staying for up to six months allows for flexible travel planning — ideal for long reunions, work-and-travel stays, or in-depth explorations of Armenia’s rich history and landscapes.

The initiative is part of Armenia’s broader tourism strategy in 2026 to attract more international visitors and stimulate cultural and business exchanges across continents.
