Canada to issue 10,000 Parents and Grandparents Program sponsorship from July 28

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the reopening of the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) beginning July 28, 2025. Up to 10,000 invitations will be issued to potential sponsors over a two-week period. This program enables Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence, offering a direct path to family reunification—not just temporary visits.

However, this round is only open to individuals who submitted interest-to-sponsor forms in 2020 but have not yet been invited in earlier rounds. The IRCC urges such applicants to monitor their 2020 email accounts, including junk and spam folders, for invitation notices.

All applications must be submitted electronically via the Permanent Residence Portal or through a representative using the Representative PR Portal.

Didn’t Get Invited? Consider the Super Visa

For those who don’t receive an invitation under this PGP round, there’s still an option to reunite with loved ones in Canada. The Super Visa offers a multiple-entry, long-term stay—valid for up to 10 years, allowing parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit, with the possibility of extending their stay by another 2 years without leaving the country.

📣 What You Should Do:

  • If you submitted an interest in 2020, check your email (and spam folder!) between July 28 and mid-August 2025.

  • If not invited, explore the Super Visa route.
