Dubai has introduced a major policy linking visa services to traffic fine payments. Under the new system, all residency-related applications—including renewals, cancellations, and transfers—will be blocked if outstanding traffic fines remain unpaid.
What’s Changed?
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has integrated its visa processing system with Dubai Police’s traffic fines database. This means:
-
If you have unpaid traffic fines, your application for visa renewal, cancellation, or transfer will be rejected.
-
The rule applies to all residents, including those applying on behalf of dependents.
Why This Move?
Authorities say the rule is intended to enforce compliance with traffic laws and reduce fine evasion.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, explained that residents must respect local regulations, and this system ensures accountability.
How to Check and Pay Your Fines
-
Online: Dubai Police website, Dubai Police App, RTA website, Dubai Now App, or banking apps
-
In-Person: Customer Happiness Centres, Sahl Smart Kiosks, Emirates Post Offices
If you have large unpaid fines, GDRFA and Dubai Police offer installment plans to ease payment.
What Residents Should Do Now
-
Check your traffic fines regularly
-
Settle all dues before submitting any visa-related application
-
Request an installment plan if needed
-
Keep proof of payment for your records
Bottom Line: If you want your residency paperwork processed in Dubai, clear all pending traffic fines first.
