GCC to Launch One‑Stop Travel System in December 2025 — What It Means for Gulf Travel

The Gulf region is about to get a major travel upgrade. In December 2025, the GCC will pilot a new “one‑stop” travel system that promises to simplify and speed up air travel among member states.

Under the current practice, a traveller flying between Gulf countries must go through immigration, customs, and security checks twice — once before departure and again upon arrival. The new system aims to change that. During the pilot phase, these checks will all happen only at the departure airport. Upon arrival in the destination country, travellers will be able to move through like they do on a domestic flight, without going through immigration or security again.

Where the Pilot Starts

The first route to benefit from this system is flights between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. Citizens travelling between these countries will test the new one‑stop arrangement first. If the trial succeeds, the system could roll out to include all six GCC member states: the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.

Why This Is a Big Deal

  • Faster travel & fewer delays: Travellers will skip repeated immigration and security queues, cutting down airport wait times significantly.

  • Simpler multi‑city trips: Flying across the Gulf could become as easy as domestic flights — great for business travellers, frequent flyers, and regional commuters.

  • Boost to tourism and business mobility: Easier travel encourages more regional visits, cross‑country business trips, and could attract more international travellers if the system expands and pairs with broader visa reforms.

What to Expect If You’re Travelling

For GCC citizens flying within the region after December 2025 — at least on the initial UAE–Bahrain route — expect a much smoother airport experience: just one set of checks at departure. You’ll board like on a regular international flight, but land like you’re on a domestic leg.

It’s not yet confirmed if or when the system will expand to include residents or non‑GCC nationals, or how quickly it will cover all member states. But this launch signals a strong push toward deeper regional travel integration.
